Shifu

Today we are in conversation with the creator of Shifu, Prashant singh. This app helps you outsource the job of remembering what’s important and when to do it.Isn’t it amazing..?? that you don’t have to remember anything. So lets see what this revolutionary app cant do.

Tell us a little bit about your startup.

We are working on a context aware personal assistant app Shifu. Shifu enable your phone to predict what user is going to do next. It brings anticipatory capabilities to  contact book, battery, Call log etc. Think of it like a smart task/ To Do list which learn from your usage pattern, anticipates your need and make relevant recommendations about information, Apps, Contacts, tasks  without you having to look for them. These recommendations varies according to your context and depend on every thing from usage history to  your location to the time of day and  your individual preference. Shifu enable your phone to understand and adopt according to you and make it truly personalized.

What inspired the creation of it?

Its a long story .Idea of Shifu was germinated thanks to my obsession with customizing my phone ,computer everything . I love having shortcuts and macro for things are do . I often felt that I always call some people during fix hour , i charge my phone around same time, i call some people almost every time I visit their city . My phone should be able to figure this out by looking at my data and help me  to get it done without me having to take figure out how. Phone should be able to learn from my usage pattern and guess my next move. This was the core insight which lead to the development of Shifu.

What is your target audience and why?

Shifu is currently supported on android platform only. our users are primarily heavy smartphone user who want to make maximum use of their phone. this heavy phone users are two extremes (1) those who are affluent power user : who have multiple computing devices and they are looking for more innovative use of the phone. other is the one whose one and only computing device is phone. so they want to use it for maximum purposes . its fascinating how two extreme end of spectrum merge in same use case.

Since now it also has a dedicated website and all, how time consuming or difficult was it to get started?

Starting and getting your venture off the ground is most difficult part . it take 110% of your time and attention .

Team Shifu

How many hours a week do you spend on work?  What about family/hobbies?

We spend work 6 days a week , 16 hour a day . we don’t have time for hobbies anymore .Startup is an all consuming job . we give 110% here. though none of us is married but we don’t get much time to spend with parents.we are fortunate that our families are extremely co operative and supportive .

Why do you think this company can beat the competition?

We have a good product and a kick ass team. we have relevant experience and we work harder than anyone else.

Have you been in a failed start-up before?  Why did it fail?  what would you do differently?

Its my fourth startup and first one as a founder . I have worked in three startups before . i won’t get in to specific of those ventures but i will just say that most of the time what kills a startup is lack of focus and conviction on the idea . if you believe in your product and stagy focused than sooner or later things start happening . other big reason is cash : I’ve seen  a lot of ideas which could have be BIG Big name had they just survived a little longer. So one must conserve cash at any cost.

What outsiders have been most important to your business (eg. Mentors, bankers etc.)

WE believe we have been extremely  lucky to get right advice from the people who have done it before.

What is your advice to young entrepreneurs starting today?

Work hard , don’t listen to cynics their advice is usually their biography.

How has been your journey so far as an entrepreneur?

FUN…..

Where do you see yourself and your venture 5 years from now?

Shifu is product in a fast moving tech industry. 5 years is a life time . its hard to say what we will be doing specifically . But i am sure that if we survive for next 5 years we will be one of the big guys and will be taking bigger challenges .

So readers if you’re looking for something that’s simple and effective Shifu is the app for you.
